Earl Awarded Electric Boat SSGN Contract
June 2004
Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics has awarded Earl Industries a multi-option contract to sandblast and preserve the Trident ballistic missile tubes onboard the USS Ohio under conversion at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington. Additional work may include preservation of hull areas, superstructure, and bilge areas.
This contract supports Electric Boats design and building of the Trident SSGN, a modification of four Ohio-class (Trident) ballistic-missile submarines into a multi-mission platform optimized for covert strike and special operations warfare. Four Trident SSGN conversions are scheduled or in-process at Bremerton, Washington and Portsmouth, Virginia.
During the evolution of this contract, Earls West Coast Division will provide project support for the production efforts of Earls subsidiary, International Marine & Industrial Applicators (IMIA). IMIA specializes in a keen ability to mobilize its workforce and equipment to provide its services worldwide. With equipment and labor positioned at various locations along the Gulf of Mexico, Eastern and Western Seaboards, and the Great Lakes region, award of this contract exemplifies Earl Industries and IMIAs commitment to meet the needs of the U.S. Navy and its contractors.
