Earl Industries' 60 acre, modern, fully-equipped shipyard on the Elizabeth River in Portsmouth, Virginia is one of the most capable facilities for systematically servicing the largest ship repair contracts. Our current business base includes shipboard work for the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Military Sealift Command, the U.S. Maritime Administration (and its Ship Managers), and ship builders such as Bath Iron Works. Additionally, the marina is equipped with docking for three Ro-Ros roll-on/roll-off cargo ships for the Maritime Administration, at its second, 799-foot pier.

Earl's steel and concrete 799 ft Pier Number One (which presently serves as the companys principle repair pier) was designed and constructed using the latest state-of-the-art methods in 1993, and is outfitted with all the permanent services necessary for mooring and berthing operations. The Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion and Repair, USN has approved it for mooring major combatant and auxiliary ships during overhauls and repairs. Augmenting Earls pier facilities are nearly 50,000 sq. ft. of modern, covered, environmentally-controlled shops and storage areas. Each shop is fully outfitted with all equipment and tooling appropriate to the requirements of the trade.

Additional dredging and a new sounding survey were completed on April 29, 2002. The dredging and new soundings encompassed the entire berthing area on both the north and south sides of Pier Number One and extend out to the federal channel. The new sounding survey reflected a minimum water depth of 36 feet at mean lower low water. Earl Industries has continued to conduct periodic sounding surveys and minor dredging operations to ensure that the water depth is maintained.
