Earl Industries’ Florida Division’s modern shop facilities were designed specifically to support Navy ship repair. Situated immediately adjacent to the maintenance piers on Naval Station Mayport, this 2-acre compound houses a fully equipped machine shop, structural shop, electrical clean room, sheet metal shop and pipe shop. A fully equipped 30,000 square foot production building is located only 500 yards from the piers. Additionally, there is an environmentally-compliant blast and paint booth. The company also maintains mobile, containerized tool rooms and shop facilities that are readily transportable to the job site. Earl also has a long-term lease on a 10,000 square foot warehouse and two more acres of lay down area ½-mile outside the Naval Station’s main gate. Earl Florida’s Human Resources, Shipping and Receiving, Purchasing as well as secure GFM and CFM storage are located there.

Joseph J. O’Conor
General Manager, Florida Operations
Mr. Joe O’Conor holds a Bachelor’s Degree in General Engineering from the US Naval Academy and a Master’s Degree in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces at the National Defense University. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from George Washington University. Joe is a retired US Navy Captain, having served on numerous ships throughout his career, including a tour as Commanding Officer of USS O’Bannon (DD-987). After retiring from the Navy in 2001, he joined Earl Industries and has been instrumental in the growth and profitability of the company’s Florida Division.
Randal M. Putnam
Operations Manager, Florida Division
Mr. Randy Putnam has over twenty years of operations, production, and quality assurance management. Randy served six years of active duty in the US Navy, in an engineering rating. He successfully completed the Project Management Courses at Old Dominion University and the University of North Florida. Randy joined Earl Industries’ management team in 1996 as a Project Manager responsible for complex ship repairs on US Navy and US Coast Guard vessels. He is currently Operations Manager of the Florida Division.
Michael A. Sheklin
Estimating Manager, Florida Division
Mr. Mike Sheklin holds a Bachelor of Science (Marine Transportation) degree from State University of New York Maritime College, and a Master of Science from City College of New York. He is also a USCG licensed Master. Mike is responsible for the development of estimates and proposals on solicitations for repair availabilities on US Naval vessels. He joined Earl Industries in 2002, where his expertise, knowledge of ship repair and experience have contributed significantly to the company’s great success in the Mayport, Florida area.
Kevin M. Lehane
Project Manager, Florida Division
Mr. Kevin Lehane has over twenty-four years of Naval Shipyard Repair experience. He joined Earl Industries’ management team in 1999 as a Project Manager. In this position, he is responsible for various contracts accomplished at Mayport Naval Station. Through his formal training and hands-on experience, Kevin’s performance in shipbuilding has been an inspiration to our company.
Samuel R. Sheider, III
Quality Assurance Manager, Florida Division
Mr. Sam Sheider has over twenty-two years experience in the ship repair industry. Trained from helper to Certified Welder Inspector, Sam’s talent and hard work quickly earned him promotion into the supervisory ranks. Sam joined Earl Industries in 1996 as a Project Manager, where he oversees many availabilities onboard US Navy vessels. His accomplishments have significantly impacted our success. Sam assumed the position of Quality Assurance Manager for Earl Ship Repair, Florida in August 2010.
Dan Undheim, PMP
Project Manager, Florida Division
Mr. Dan Undheim holds an Associate in Arts Degree from Florida Community College at Jacksonville, and he earned his Project Management Professional (PMP) credential from the Project Management Institute (PMI). Dan served twenty years on active duty in the United States Navy, and retired as a Chief Petty Officer with many great accomplishments. In 2002, he joined Earl Industries, where he has been the lead Project Manager for several multi-million dollar CNO Availabilities on CG-47 Class ships, DDG -51 Class ships and FFG -7 Class ships. Dan’s broad knowledge across both the Combat Systems and HM&E fields makes him ideally suited to manage any repair project on US Navy ships.
Gary M. Clarke
Project Manager, Florida Division
Mr. Gary Clarke holds a Bachelor of Arts (Electrical Theory and Design) degree from Washington State University. Gary served 9-1/2 years active duty in the United States Navy (Submarines). In 1997, he joined Earl Industries as a First-Class Marine Electrician and has risen through the ranks to Foreman, and now Project Manager. Gary is a prime example of the “in-house” advancement opportunities at Earl Industries. Dedication and diverse ship repair abilities elevated him to a position of leadership where he shares the commitment to excellence and further success for the Earl Industries Ship Repair Division.
Connie Callahan
Purchasing Manager, Florida Division
Ms. Connie Callahan holds an Associate of Arts Degree from Florida Community College at Jacksonville. She became a member of the Earl Team in 2003 as an Administrative Assistant. Through the intervening years she has been promoted through the ranks, first as a Buyer and now as the Purchasing Manager for Earl Industries’ Florida Division. Through her dedication and leadership, she has been instrumental in the growth of the Florida Division. Connie is a great example of Earl Industries identifying and promoting excellent performers from within the company.
